The Feature Report

Understanding the charts and information provided by Bucket

Once Bucket receives tracking data for a feature, it will display that information in the Feature Report view. To see this, you just need to click on any of your tracked features. You'll see the following:

Let's break down what all of this means.

STARS funnel

At the top of the page is the STARS funnel, showing how your target users have moved through the funnel. If you are not familiar with the STARS funnel, please see Understanding the STARS framework. Note that some features will not display the Tried column, as it is not applicable for features with attribute-based tracking.

The percentages displayed for each part of the funnel are based off of the original segment size; in the above, only 29/99 users have reached Retained, so 29% is shown. However, the measures for Adoption rate, Retention rate, and Satisfaction rate are based off of the size of the previous step. The retention rate for this feature is Very high because 29 users out of the 34 in Adopted have retained.

You can click each bar to display a list of companies that have been through that step.

Timeline and Company lists

Below the STARS funnel is a timeline visualizing how companies have moved through the STARS funnel over time, with lists of the companies in different parts below. The key information to understand here is Churned, which is not displayed in the STARS funnel.

A company is Retained when they continue to use a feature over the long term. However, companies will sometimes stop using a feature. You can see in the above timeline that 34 companies were in Retained up until day 31, at which point 5 companies stopped using this feature. Those 5 are now Churned, and the as a result the retention rate dropped from 100% to 85%.

The STARS funnel only displays the current state of each company. When a company churns, they are put back into Adopted. You will need to look at the timeline and the churned list to determine whether companies have moved backward from Retained or never moved beyond Adopted.

Feedback and Satisfaction

Next, we have sections for Feedback and Satisfaction, showing any qualitative feedback you have received and the breakdown of scores.

An important point to note here is that feedback from churned users will be shown here but is not displayed in the Satisfied part of the STARS funnel. Satisfied only shows the feedback from Retained users. For this feature, only 2 responses are recorded for Satisfied, but you can see that there are 5 responses overall - unsurprisingly, users who give negative feedback will often churn.

Frequency

Finally we have the Frequency display, which illustrates how often companies are using the feature.

Bucket makes frequency easy by breaking the data into four categories:
Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Quarterly.

To calculate the frequency score, we go through the following checks per company. The first check to match is company frequency score.

Daily

  • Time period: Past 2 weeks
  • If the company has interacted with the feature more than 60% of the days in the time period, the company is marked as Daily. This means >= 8 days out of 14.

Weekly

  • Time period: Past 4 weeks
  • If the company has interacted with the feature more than 60% of the weeks in the time period, the company is marked as Weekly. This means >= 17 days out of 28.

Monthly

  • Time period: Past 12 weeks
  • If the company has interacted with the feature more than 60% of the weeks in the time period, the company is marked as Monthly. This means >= 7 weeks out of 12.

Quarterly

  • Time period: Past 12 weeks
  • If the company doesn't match any of the above, the company is marked as Quarterly. This means the company uses the feature <= 5 weeks out of 12.
